Biodiversity is the source of the
essential goods and ecological services that constitute the
source of life for all. The celebration each year of
International Day for Biological Diversity is an occasion to
reflect on our responsibility to safeguard this precious
heritage for future generations.
The World
Biodiversity Day was celebrated on 22-05-2005 by PSCST. The
following programmes were organized:
Advertisement in all the
leading newspapers. |
A State level
essay and poster competition for 1700 Eco-club students from
schools all over the state was organized on the following
topics:

More than 250 entries were received. Thirty best entries (five
each for each category) for English urban, English rural,
Punjabi Urban, Punjabi rural essays, Poster urban, Poster
rural prizes were selected for prizes. The prize winners were:

Prizes will be awarded to the winners
during the State Science Fair to be organized by State
Institute of Science Education, Punjab shortly.
Further, about
90 NGOs and schools/ institutions were motivated to
celebrate International Biodiversity Day. Institute of
Ecology and environment, Pathankot, Global College of
Pharmacy, Ropar and Shivalik College of Pharmacy, Nangal
organized lectures and exhibitions on biodiversity. Further,
Atma Ram Jain Girls Sr. Sec. School, Khanna, Jain High
School, Khanna, Shastri Model School, Mohali, SD Sr. Sec.
School, Sham Chaurasi, Government High School, Gobindpur
Khunkhun, Hoshiarpur organized special programmes involving
children like debates, skits on biodiversity, essay and
poster competitions, etc. Several schools also organized
special lectures at the occasion.
Further, some NGOs like Green Express,
Hoshiarpur, Bhartiya Jan Gyan Vigyan Jatha, Ludhiana, etc.
organized special programmes for the public. The events were
covered in the local newspapers also.
